Vance defends Disneyland trip with a cutting five-word comeback to the governor

JD Vance Fires Back After Newsom Criticizes Disneyland Family Trip

Senator JD Vance snapped back at California Governor Gavin Newsom after facing public criticism over his recent family trip to Disneyland. The backlash came during a tense weekend marked by protests and federal immigration raids across Southern California.

Disneyland Trip Goes Viral

Over the weekend, photos and videos of Vance, his wife Usha, and their two children enjoying Disneyland circulated online. Their visit came as immigration enforcement intensified in nearby Los Angeles and Anaheim—just miles from the park.

While the Vance family appeared to enjoy their day, their presence sparked protests and political commentary.

Newsom’s Sharp Critique

Governor Newsom took to X (formerly Twitter) with a sarcastic jab at Vance, writing:

“Hope you enjoy your family time, @JDVance. The families you’re tearing apart certainly won’t.”

Newsom’s comments came amid lawsuits facing California and a controversial raid on undocumented immigrants working at a marijuana farm.

Vance Responds with 5-Word Clapback

Vance kept his reply short and pointed:

“Had a great time, thanks.”

His quick, five-word response drew both praise and criticism online.

Protests Break Out Nearby

Around 150 protesters gathered outside Disneyland to voice their outrage. Signs like “No family vacation while we deal with family separation” featured Vance’s face.

Some demonstrators even headed to the nearby Grand Californian Hotel, where the Vance family was rumored to be staying.

Ongoing Feud Between Newsom and Trump

Newsom has long clashed with Donald Trump’s administration, particularly on immigration. Their feud reignited in June when Trump deployed the National Guard to California—despite Newsom’s objections—to quell anti-ICE demonstrations.

Protesters and local leaders accused federal agents of targeting Latino communities and engaging in racial profiling.

Tensions High in Anaheim Region

Recent raids in districts like Anaheim, Garden Grove, Orange, and Tustin have escalated tensions. Just last week, federal agents detained over 200 undocumented workers at a cannabis farm. Trump even authorized the arrest of protestors he labeled “slimeballs.” However, a judge later blocked that order, calling it unconstitutional.

Local Leaders Weigh In

Orange County officials were briefed on Vance’s visit. Supervisor Vicente Sarmiento commented:

“This visit comes at a time when trust in government feels fragile.”

He continued:

“I welcome any policymaker to visit, listen, and witness the hardworking immigrant communities that make our county strong. I respect the office, but I can’t respect policies that hurt our people.”

Final Thoughts

While JD Vance’s Disneyland visit seemed personal, it quickly became political. As immigration tensions rise in California, public figures are under increased scrutiny—not just for their policies, but for their personal choices as well.
