Texas Flood Tragedy Claims Sisters as Family Clings to Hope for Missing Grandparents

The Harber family from North Texas is mourning the heartbreaking loss of sisters Blair (13) and Brooke (11), who were swept away in the recent Texas Hill Country floods. The girls were found 15 miles downstream, still holding hands. Their grandparents, Mike and Charlene Harber, remain missing. The family had been staying at a riverfront home in Hunt, Texas, when the floodwaters struck unexpectedly early on July 4.

Parents R.J. and Annie Harber tried desperately to reach their daughters and parents as water rose quickly, forcing them to break a window to escape. They borrowed a kayak and attempted a rescue, but the current was too strong. While the parents and five others were saved, the heartbreak of not being able to reach their loved ones in time continues to haunt them.

In the aftermath, friends launched a GoFundMe campaign that has raised over $169,000 to support the grieving family. Photos shared on the page show cherished memories of happier times. A joint funeral for the sisters will be held at St. Rita Catholic Church in Dallas, while the search continues for Mike and Charlene.

The floods devastated communities across central Texas, claiming more than 80 lives and leaving dozens still unaccounted for. Despite the tragedy, support has poured in from across the country. The Harber family’s loss stands as a reminder of the deep love shared among families—and the strength required to face the unimaginable.
