Fans have recently noticed Kelly Clarkson’s striking weight loss transformation, sparking widespread curiosity about how she did it. While the singer and talk show host had been relatively quiet about her methods, she’s now opening up and sharing the full story.
During a recent episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, Clarkson was joined by guest Whoopi Goldberg, who candidly discussed her own experience using weight loss medication. That moment prompted Clarkson to chime in with her own journey—revealing for the first time that medical support played a role in her transformation.
“I wasn’t really planning on talking about this,” Clarkson said, before explaining that her doctor had suggested she consider a specific medication after certain concerns showed up in her bloodwork.
“Mine is different than what most people assume,” she clarified. “But I did end up needing a little help, too. My doctor had been encouraging it for about two years, and I kept saying no because I was afraid—especially with my thyroid issues.”
While many people speculated that she had used well-known medications like Ozempic, Clarkson explained that hers was something else entirely—designed to help regulate how her body processes sugar. “My body doesn’t do it correctly,” she said.
This new insight comes after Clarkson previously attributed her weight loss to lifestyle changes—like walking more since relocating to New York City and focusing on a protein-rich diet. And while those factors certainly played a role, her latest comments paint a more complete picture.
Clarkson also shared that a concert video was a turning point for her. After watching a recording of one of her Los Angeles performances, she didn’t recognize herself on screen. “I was 203 pounds in that video,” she recalled, saying it gave her the motivation to take charge of her health more intentionally.
She now joins a growing number of public figures—such as Oprah Winfrey, Rebel Wilson, and Heather Gay—who’ve chosen to be transparent about the support they’ve used on their wellness journeys.

Clarkson’s openness adds another layer to an important conversation: that weight loss is deeply personal, often complex, and different for everyone. Whether through diet, movement, or medical guidance, what matters most is doing what feels right for your body—and your life.
