Jeff Daniels didn’t hold back when he appeared on Nicolle Wallace’s podcast. He took aim at Trump supporters and said: “I hope you’re losing tons of money, those of you who thought this would be OK.”
He talked about Mitch McConnell and how Republicans spent years reshaping the courts. Daniels said: “They were going to be the minority. So they just started [stacking the courts], and then here we are. And now you’ve got it, and now you’re losing money.”
Wallace pointed out how Trump’s tariffs raised prices for everyday people. Daniels said: “Wait a minute, the grocery bill is what? $180 more? I can’t get that car we have to have unless I pay another $8,000? Who do I blame for that? Who do I see about that? One person.”
He also said: “I think he’s a snake oil salesman, and I think people will see that.”
The conversation shifted to values, and Wallace said: “There’s something about decency being the sort of collateral damage – the thing we lose over wanting cheaper eggs.”
Daniels agreed and said voters believed false promises and ended up with higher bills instead. He also praised Kamala Harris and said: “She would have been a good choice. Because she would have done what Lincoln did. He surrounded himself with the people who would disagree with him, not the people who would take a knee and say, ‘Yeah, more tariffs, sir, more.’”
After the episode aired, backlash came fast. Some users online supported him, but many others criticized him harshly.
People called him out for speaking on things they said he didn’t understand. Some mocked his acting roles, others dismissed his opinion entirely. The responses showed just how fired up people still are.
