JD Vance Faces Backlash for ‘Disgraceful’ Gesture on Live TV
Vice President JD Vance sparked outrage after flashing an offensive gesture during a speech in Ohio. The incident happened shortly after President Donald Trump used an NSFW word while addressing reporters about the Middle East conflict on June 24.
The Incident: Middle Finger at Republican Dinner
During a hometown speech at a Republican dinner, Vance said, “I know it’s not always easy to be a political candidate, trust me. In Washington, D.C. they have this thing, I think it means we’re No.1 in Washington, D.C.” He then showed the middle finger.
He added, “But all the pink-haired people throw up this sign and I think that means we’re no.1 right? I choose to take that as that symbol in Washington.”
Context: Trump’s Heated Remarks on Middle East Conflict
Vance’s gesture followed President Trump’s fiery interview about the Iran-Israel conflict. When asked if Iran still supported peace after allegedly violating a ceasefire, Trump responded, “Yes, I do believe [Iran is still committed to peace]. They violated it but Israel violated it too.”
Trump criticized both sides:
-
“As soon as we made the deal, Israel dropped a load of bombs the likes of which I had never seen before.”
-
“I’m not happy with Israel… I’m not happy with Iran either.”
-
“We have basically two countries fighting so hard that they don’t know what the f**k they are doing, do you understand that?”
Ceasefire Update: Trump’s Later Statement
Despite the tension, the ceasefire seems to hold. Trump later posted on Truth Social:
“ISRAEL is not going to attack Iran. All planes will turn around and head home, while doing a friendly ‘Plane Wave’ to Iran. Nobody will be hurt, the Ceasefire is in effect! Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
