Trump Reveals Melania’s Letter to Putin
Donald Trump has disclosed a letter First Lady Melania Trump wrote to Vladimir Putin. He personally handed the letter to the Russian president during their recent summit in Alaska.
The Alaska Summit
Speculation ran high before the meeting on Friday, August 15. Trump and Putin convened to discuss a potential ceasefire over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Notably, Ukraine was excluded. The Ukrainian government, fighting to reclaim their homeland since 2022, sent no representatives. In other words, peace terms were discussed without including the nation most affected.
Claims of Progress
After the summit, Trump asserted he and Putin had made “great progress.” However, no formal deal emerged. There was still no ceasefire, nor any proposal ready for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
One achievement: Trump ensured Putin read Melania’s letter. The Russian president reportedly read it immediately.
Melania’s Plea
Trump shared the letter’s contents. Melania urged Putin to consider the children who “dream of love, possibility, and safety from danger” and to call off his invasion.
Her letter read:
“Every child shares the same quiet dreams in their heart, whether born randomly into a nation’s rustic countryside or magnificent city-center. They dream of love, possibility, and safety from danger. In protecting the innocence of these children, you will do more than serve Russia alone – you serve humanity itself. Such a bold idea transcends all human division, and you, Mr. Putin, are fit to implement this vision with the stroke of the pen today. It is time.”
Mixed Reactions
Media coverage of the summit was mixed. Reports suggested Russia might only agree to a ceasefire if allowed to keep large areas of Ukraine it seized — a concession Ukraine is unwilling to make.
Meanwhile, Trump lashed out at critics. On Truth Social, he wrote:
“If I got Russia to give up Moscow as part of the Deal, the Fake News, and their PARTNER, the Radical Left Democrats, would say I made a terrible mistake and a very bad deal. That’s why they are the FAKE NEWS! Also, they should talk about the 6 WARS, etc., I JUST STOPPED!!!”
Envoy Confirms Substantial Progress
Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, claimed the talks advanced other key elements for a potential peace deal. On CNN’s State of the Union, he said:
“We made so much progress at this meeting with regard to all the other ingredients necessary for a peace deal that we — that President Trump pivoted to that place.”
